A significant opportunity to strengthen Victoria’s regional livestock transport infrastructure, improve biosecurity and support the long-term sustainability of the livestock supply chain.
The Victorian Government has opened the Regional Truck Wash Upgrade (RTWU) Grants Program, providing an important opportunity to improve truck wash infrastructure and effluent disposal facilities across regional Victoria.
The program recognises the critical role that livestock transport operators and truck wash facilities play in protecting animal health, maintaining biosecurity and keeping Australia’s livestock supply chain moving.
For the livestock transport industry, accessible, well-maintained truck wash facilities are essential. Effective truck washing and effluent management help minimise the risk of disease transmission between properties, support environmental compliance and provide safer, more practical facilities for operators.
What does the program aim to achieve?
Supported through the Livestock Biosecurity Funds Grant Program, the initiative aims to:
- Upgrade and modernise existing regional truck wash facilities.
- Improve truck wash capacity and effluent disposal options.
- Address gaps in Victoria’s regional truck wash network.
- Improve facility safety, accessibility and operational standards.
- Strengthen livestock disease prevention and emergency disease preparedness.
Expressions of Interest now open
Stage 1 of the program is now open for Expressions of Interest (EOI), with applications closing at 5.00 pm AEDT, 15 December 2026.
The initial EOI process will identify potential projects, assess their readiness and help inform the next stage of funding.
Successful applicants may subsequently be invited to submit a detailed funding application under Stage 2, expected to commence in early 2027. Proposed funding streams will support project planning and infrastructure development, including upgrades to existing facilities and new infrastructure.
Importantly, no funding is provided during the initial EOI stage.
An important investment in our industry
LRTAV welcomes investment in regional truck wash infrastructure. Reliable and accessible wash facilities are not simply an added convenience for livestock operators; they are an essential component of a functioning, biosecure and sustainable livestock transport network.
Continued investment in this infrastructure benefits transport operators, livestock producers, regional communities and the broader agricultural industry.
We encourage eligible organisations, facility operators and regional councils to investigate the program and consider opportunities to strengthen truck wash infrastructure in their region.
